How the League Works

League events

Only events of standard competitions, those with a rise and loser, count towards the league. An event where no result has recorded faults, because the complete results don't survive, is a partial event and doesn't count either.

The two tables

The all-comers table includes every team that has rung in at least one league event in the season. The DRL table only includes teams that have reached the qualifying threshold: three events entered until mid-June, and five after that. For every completed season the threshold is five events.

Points

In each league event a team earns two points for each opponent it beat and one point for each opponent it tied with. Teams tie when they are next to each other in the results with the same faults, even if the judges separated them some other way. A disqualified team scores no points, and every team that finished counts it as beaten.

Because points are counted per opponent, bigger fields are worth more: winning a twelve-team competition earns 22 points, while winning a four-team competition earns 6.

Rating and fault difference

A team's rating is its average points per event entered in the season, and it decides the table. Teams level on rating are separated by fault difference: in every league event the team entered, each other team's faults minus the team's own, all added together. Disqualified results and results with no recorded faults are left out of fault difference. If teams are still level, the team that entered more events ranks higher; teams level on all three share a position.

A worked example

Five teams ring in a league event:

Position Team Faults Points Fault difference
1stTeam A208+60
2nd=Team B3550
2nd=Team C3550
4thTeam D502−60
DQTeam E–0–

Team A beat four opponents, so earns 8 points. Teams B and C tie on 35 faults: each beat two opponents (D and E) and tied with one, so each earns 5. Team D beat only the disqualified team E, earning 2. Team A's fault difference is (35 − 20) + (35 − 20) + (50 − 20) = +60; Team E is left out because it was disqualified.
